Abyss Fragment Overview & Why They Matter

Abyss Fragments are crimson-colored collectible crystals scattered throughout the world of Crimson Desert. Each fragment grants 1 permanent skill point when collected, making them one of the most valuable collectibles in the game. There are 60 total fragments across the entire world, with 45 of them accessible in the mid-game regions.

Skill points are the most permanent form of progression in Crimson Desert. Unlike gear or silver, you never lose skill points. Collecting all 60 fragments gives you 60 extra skill points - enough to max out an entire additional skill branch. This is a massive power increase that benefits every build and playstyle.

The best part about Abyss Fragments is that they are account-wide? No, they are per-character, but the locations are always the same. Once you know where they are, you can collect them quickly on alts as well. This makes them even more valuable for players who enjoy playing multiple characters.

Balenos & Serendia: Easy Fragments

The Balenos and Serendia regions contain 18 fragments total, all of which are easy to medium difficulty. These are the first fragments you should collect because they give you a quick boost of skill points with minimal effort.

Balenos Region (8 fragments)

• Western Guard Camp (3): One behind the blacksmith shop, one on top of the watchtower (climb the ladder), one in the storage cellar (break the crate in the back corner).
• Balenos Forest (2): One on a rock ledge near the waterfall (requires a small jump), one inside the hollow tree stump in the northern part of the forest.
• Coastal Cave (2): One on a ledge above the entrance (climb around the side), one at the very back of the cave behind a fake wall.
• Old Moon Pond (1): At the bottom of the pond, hidden in the weeds. Dive down and look for a glowing red spot.

Serendia Region (10 fragments)

• Heidel City (4): One on the cathedral roof (climb the stairs outside), one in the fountain plaza, one in the tavern attic, one behind the castle walls (follow the outer path).
• Heidel Outskirts (3): One in the abandoned farm house cellar, one at the top of the windmill, one hidden under the bridge south of town.
• Glish Ruins (2): One on top of the broken pillar (requires double jump), one inside the underground chamber (find the hidden switch behind a pillar).
• Serendia Shrine (1): Behind the altar, accessible through a hidden passage on the left side.

Calpheon: Medium Difficulty Fragments

The Calpheon region has 14 fragments, with a mix of easy, medium, and a few hard ones. Calpheon City alone has 5 fragments hidden in various nooks and crannies around the massive city.

• Cathedral (1): On the very top of the main spire. You need to climb several levels and make a tricky jump at the top.
• Castle (2): One in the throne room behind the throne (interact with the wall), one in the castle dungeon behind a locked door (key from a hidden quest).
• Market District (1): Inside the clock tower. Climb the stairs and look for a hidden platform halfway up.
• Noble Quarter (1): In the garden of the northernmost mansion. It is inside the fountain, hidden under the water.

Northern Calpheon (5 fragments)

• Phoniel's Cabin (1): In the attic of the cabin. You need to jump from a nearby rock onto the roof, then drop down through the chimney.
• Trent Woods (2): One on a fallen log over a gorge (timing-based jump), one inside the giant tree hollow (requires going through a root tunnel).
• Briar Forest (2): One at the top of the watchtower ruins, one in the underground bandit camp (find the hidden entrance behind vines).

Southern Calpheon (4 fragments)

• Keplan (2): One in the church bell tower, one at the bottom of the well (you need to find the rope to climb down).
• Oze Pass (1): On a ledge halfway up the mountain pass. Look for a narrow path along the cliff face.
• Bernianto Farm (1): Inside the haystack in the barn. Attack the haystack to reveal the fragment.

The Calpheon Castle dungeon fragment is one of the most commonly missed because it requires a key from a hidden quest. The quest starts from an NPC in the Calpheon slums who asks you to find her missing brother. Complete the short quest chain to get the dungeon key.

Mediah: Harder-to-Find Fragments

Mediah has 13 fragments spread across a large desert region. Many are well-hidden and require parkour or puzzle-solving to reach. These are some of the most rewarding fragments to find because most players miss them.

Mediah Fragments (13 total)

• Altinova (3): One on top of the giant statue (climb the back side), one in the marketplace under the stairs, one in the abandoned lighthouse north of town.
• Desert Fogs (3): One inside the desert temple (solve the floor tile puzzle), one buried in the sand near the oasis (dig at the marked spot), one on a rock arch (platforming challenge).
• Titium Valley (2): One behind a waterfall (swim through the curtain of water), one at the bottom of the canyon (requires careful climbing down).
• Tarif (2): One on the roof of the tallest building, one in the secret underground library (entrance in the scholar's house).
• Abandoned Quarry (2): One at the bottom of the main pit (go down the wooden stairs), one in the locked storage shed (key from the foreman's desk).
• Pilgrim's Haven (1): At the very top of the pilgrim's sanctum. You need to jump across several pillars to reach it.

The desert temple puzzle is notoriously tricky. The floor tiles have symbols on them, and you need to step on them in the correct order. The clue is on the wall at the entrance: sun, moon, star, sun, moon. Step on tiles in that pattern to open the door.

The buried sand fragment is another one that most players miss. There is a small dune near the southern oasis with a slightly different color sand. If you stand on it and use the "dig" emote (or a shovel tool), you will uncover a chest with the fragment inside.

Dungeon & Boss Fragments

Five fragments are hidden inside dungeons and boss rooms. These are the hardest to get because they require not just exploration but also combat ability. However, they are also some of the most satisfying to collect.

Dungeon Fragment Locations

• Elric Shrine (1): In the secret room behind the final boss. After defeating the boss, wait 10 seconds and a hidden passage will open on the left wall. Go through to find the fragment on an altar.
• Abandoned Monastery (1): In the catacombs below the monastery. Find the cracked wall in the second-to-last room and break it with any attack. The fragment is inside the hidden room.
• Desert Naga Temple (1): On a high ledge above the boss room. Before engaging the boss, look for a climbing path on the right side of the entrance area. Follow it up and around to reach the ledge.
• Ruins of Riches (1): In the treasure vault. You need to find 3 hidden keys scattered throughout the dungeon (one in each main area). Use them on the vault door before the final boss.
• Abyss Dungeon (1): The hardest fragment to get. It is in the secret area of the Abyss Dungeon, accessible only if you do the dungeon without dying and find all 3 runestones along the way.

The Ruins of Riches vault is particularly tricky because the keys are well-hidden. Key 1 is in the first area, inside a pot in the corner of a side room. Key 2 is in the second area, on top of a pillar that you need to jump to. Key 3 is in the third area, dropped by an elite mob that spawns only if you interact with a specific tombstone.

The Abyss Dungeon fragment is the rarest and hardest to get. You need to find all 3 runestones (glowing purple stones hidden in side passages), carry them to the rune altar before the final boss, and activate them. This opens a portal to a secret room with the fragment + a bonus boss that drops rare loot.

Secret Areas & Hidden Quests

Beyond Abyss Fragments, the world of Crimson Desert is full of secret areas, hidden quests, and easter eggs. These are not required for anything, but they are fun to discover and often reward unique items or titles.

Notable Secret Areas

• Hidden Hot Spring: In the mountains northeast of Calpheon, there is a hidden hot spring with special buffs. Soaking in it gives you +5 to all stats for 1 hour. The entrance is behind a waterfall.
• Ghost Ship: Off the coast of Serendia, a ghost ship appears at midnight on certain days. Boarding it and defeating the ghost captain rewards a unique title and a rare ship decoration.
• Fairy Ring: In Balenos Forest, there is a circle of mushrooms that glows at night. If you stand in the center and do the "dance" emote, a fairy appears and gives you a temporary movement speed buff.
• Underground Lake: Below the Abandoned Monastery, there is a massive underground lake with its own unique fishing spots. The fish here are worth 2-3x normal fish prices.

Hidden Quest Chains

• The Missing Brother: Starts from a woman in Calpheon slums. Leads to the castle dungeon and rewards a unique ring.
• Pirate Treasure: Find the first treasure map piece on Pirate Island, then follow the clues to find 4 more pieces. Final reward: 10M silver + a unique title.
• Last Alchemist: Starts from a hidden NPC in the mountains near Mediah. A long quest chain about the history of alchemy. Rewards a unique alchemy stone.

Finding all of the game's secrets takes dozens of hours of exploration. The best way to find them is simply to wander off the beaten path and explore. If a location looks interesting or suspicious, there is probably something hidden there.
