Introduction
Crimson Desert is filled with hidden secrets and Easter eggs that reward curious players. From secret boss encounters to hidden treasure rooms, the developers at Pearl Abyss have packed the world of Pywel with discoveries that most players will never find. This guide reveals 7 of the most notable hidden secrets in the game, complete with locations and rewards.
Secret 1: The Forgotten Dragon Tomb
Location
Beneath the Crimson Wastes, there is a hidden entrance that leads to the Forgotten Dragon Tomb. To find it, travel to the eastern edge of the Crimson Wastes canyon. Look for a crack in the canyon wall that is partially obscured by rubble. Use a bomb or explosive skill to clear the rubble and reveal the entrance.
What is Inside
The tomb contains the skeletal remains of an ancient dragon. At the center of the tomb is a chest containing the Dragon Amulet, a unique accessory that grants +15% fire resistance and +10% damage against dragon-type enemies. There are also 5 dragon bone nodes that you can mine for crafting materials.
Reward
- Dragon Amulet (accessory)
- Dragon Bones x5
- Ancient Gold x500
Tip
Bring a light source. The tomb is pitch dark, and there are no natural light sources inside.
Secret 2: The Ghost Merchant of Haven City
Location
In Haven City, there is a ghost merchant that only appears at midnight (in-game time). To find him, go to the old well in the merchant district at exactly 00:00 game time. The ghost will appear and offer unique items that cannot be obtained anywhere else.
What He Sells
| Item | Price | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Spectral Cloak | 2000 silver | +20% stealth, glows in the dark |
| Ghost Lantern | 1500 silver | Reveals hidden paths for 60 seconds |
| Cursed Coin | 3000 silver | +50% gold find, -10% HP |
| Spirit Shard | 1000 silver | Upgrade material for ghost weapons |
Tip
The ghost merchant only stays for 5 in-game minutes (about 2 minutes real time). Know what you want to buy before he appears. He restocks every 3 in-game days.
Secret 3: The Underground Arena
Location
Below the Fighting Pits in Haven City, there is a secret underground arena that hosts the toughest PvE challenge in the game. To access it, you must first complete the Fighting Pits storyline (win 10 consecutive arena battles). After winning the 10th battle, speak to the Pit Master and say the passphrase "the crimson calls" (learned from a hidden note in the Pit Master's office).
What is Inside
The underground arena features a survival mode where you face waves of increasingly difficult enemies. There are 50 waves total. Every 10th wave features a mini-boss. The final wave (50) is a unique boss called the Crimson Champion, who uses abilities from all weapon types.
Rewards
- Wave 10: Champion's Belt (+10% physical damage)
- Wave 20: Arena Master Ring (+15% stamina)
- Wave 30: Crimson Cape (cosmetic, shows arena rank)
- Wave 40: Victor's Crown (+20% XP gain)
- Wave 50: Crimson Champion Title + unique weapon skin
Secret 4: The Waterfall Cave Puzzle
Location
In the Verdant Highlands, there is a large waterfall near the Old Quarry. Behind the waterfall is a hidden cave with a light-based puzzle. The cave is easy to miss because the waterfall obscures the entrance.
The Puzzle
Inside the cave, there are 5 crystal pillars and a central pedestal. You must activate the pillars in the correct order by interacting with them. The correct order is indicated by faint markings on the cave walls, which are only visible when you hold a torch.
The correct order is: 3, 1, 4, 2, 5 (left to right).
Reward
Solving the puzzle opens a hidden chamber containing the Crystal of Clarity, a rare upgrade material that can be used to upgrade any weapon to tier 8 instantly, bypassing the normal material requirements.
Secret 5: The Hermit of Frostpeak
Location
At the very peak of Frostpeak Mountain in the Frozen North, there is a small hut that can only be reached by climbing a hidden path on the mountain's north face. The path is not marked on the map and requires precise platforming.
The Hermit
Inside the hut lives an old hermit who is actually a retired master blacksmith. If you bring him 10 Frost Iron (mined in the Frozen North) and 1 Dragon Bone, he will forge you the Frostbite Blade, a unique one-handed sword that deals ice damage and has a chance to freeze enemies on hit.
Requirement
- Frost Iron x10
- Dragon Bone x1
- Must be level 30+
Frostbite Blade Stats
- Damage: 310
- Ice Damage: +50
- Freeze Chance: 15%
- Special: Frozen enemies take 20% more damage
Secret 6: The Developer Room
Location
This is a classic Easter egg. In the basement of the Haven City library, there is a bookshelf with a misplaced book (it has a slightly different color than the others). Pull the book to reveal a hidden door leading to the Developer Room.
What is Inside
The Developer Room contains:
- Messages and artwork from the Pearl Abyss development team
- A unique NPC named after the game director who shares development trivia
- A chest containing the "Founder's Token," a cosmetic item that displays a special aura around your character
- Statues of all the game's bosses that you can examine for lore details
Tip
The misplaced book is on the third shelf from the left, second row from the bottom. It has a blue cover in a row of red books.
Secret 7: The Time-Lost Merchant Caravan
Location
This is a random encounter that occurs on the road between Haven City and the Verdant Highlands. There is a 5% chance each time you travel this road (on foot or mount) that you will encounter the Time-Lost Merchant Caravan. The caravan appears as a group of ghostly merchants traveling along the road.
What They Offer
The Time-Lost Merchants sell rare and unique items at discounted prices:
- Legendary Upgrade Stone (normally 5000 silver, here 2500 silver)
- Rare Dye Set (all colors, normally 3000 silver, here 1500 silver)
- Time Crystal (consumable that resets all cooldowns, 500 silver)
- Ancient Map Fragment (reveals all hidden locations, 2000 silver)
Tip
The encounter only lasts for 3 minutes. If you do not have enough silver, the merchants will not wait. Keep a reserve of silver when traveling this road. The encounter can be repeated but only once per in-game day.
